The air force common admission test (AFCAT) 2020

AFCAT is a well-known exam for officer rank at the Indian air force. AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test which is being conducted by the Indian air force for more than half a decade. Indian Air force is the 4th largest air force in the world. AFCAT exam is conducted two times in a year first it is in February month and the second time the aspirants can check their ability in the month of August also, for class I gazetted officers in flying and ground Duties (technical and non-technical). The exam is common for both genders(male & female). Those candidates who qualified the test are eligible for posting at Air force as officers for both short service commission in flying branch and permanent commission/short service commission at ground duties (both technical and non-technical).

AFCAT 2020 Eligibility:-

Nationality:- Candidate must be Indian

Education:

A) Flying branch:  

  1. Candidate secured 60% marks in maths and physics at the 12th level.
  2. Graduation with a minimum 3-year degree course in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% marks.
  3. Contenders who have cracked Segment A & B Exam of AMIE - Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks.

B) Ground Duty Technical

  1. Candidate secured 60% marks in maths and physics at the 12th level.
  2. Graduation with a minimum 4-year degree course in any discipline from a recognized university with 60% marks.
  (B.1) Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics)
  1. Cleared examination of Sections A and B for Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership exam of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by real studies with a minimum of 60% marks or same in the following disciplines:
  2. Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering/Technology, Computer Engineering & Application, Computer Science and Engineering/Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering/Technology, Electronics Science and Engineering, Electronics, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science, Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics and/or Telecommunication Engineering (Microwave), Electronics and Computer Engineering, Electronics Communication and Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Instrument & Control, Instruments of Electronics & Control Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Instrument & Control Engineering, Information Technology.
   (B.2) Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical):
  1. Cleared examination of Sections A & B for AMIE - Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the following disciplines:-
  2. Aerospace engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Mechanical Engineering (Production), Mechanical Engineering (Repair and Maintenance), Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering.

C) Ground Duty Non-Technical:

  1. The Logistics & Administrations: You should have a Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  2. The Accounts: B.Com Degree (Minimum three years degree course) from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  3. Education: MBA/ MCA or MA/ MSc degree in English/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Statistics/ International relations/ International Studies/ defense Studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Mass Communication/ Journalism/ Public Relation having a minimum of 50% marks in combined of all papers put together.

D) NCC Special Entry Flying Branch:

  1. You must acquire the certificate from NCC Air Wing Senior Division ‘C’ on or after 15 December 2015.
  2. You should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2.
  3. You should be a Graduate with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in of three years degree course in any discipline from a known University.

Meteorology:  

Post Graduate Degree in any Science stream. Score 50% aggregate marks in Mathematics/ Statistics/Geography/Computer Applications/Environmental Science/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/Meteorology/Agricultural Meteorology/Ecology & Environment /Geo-physics/Environmental Biology (Provided Math’s and Physics were studied at Graduation Level with a minimum of 55% marks in each).

Application fees for AFCAT 2020:-

  1. Application fee for all candidates Rs.250. This fee is non-refundable.

AFCAT Syllabus 2020: -

  1. English: Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion/ Filling in of correct word, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary, Idioms, and Phrases.
  2. General Awareness: History, Geography, Civics, Politics, Current Affairs, Environment, Basic Science, defense, Art, Culture, Sports, etc.
  3. Numerical ability: Decimal Fraction, Time and Work, Average, Profit & Loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple Interest, Time & Distance (Trains/Boats & Streams)
  4. Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test: Verbal Skills and spatial ability.

Duration ,Total question & marks:- 45 minutes , 50 Questions & 150 Marks 

*There will also be negative marking criteria per the wrong answer and a 1.0 score will be deducted.

AFCAT Result : -

AFCAT exam result declared by the Indian air force (IAF) on the official website www.afcat.cdac.in. After qualifying the exam, the exam authority will give a call for selecting the candidate for the SSB interview session.

Service Selection Board (SSB) for AFCAT 2020: -

Those candidates who qualifying computer-based test will be eligible for SSB interview. The SSB interview involves:

  1. The Picture perception and discussion test for Officer Intelligence Rating 
  2. Psychology test (written), Group test (Activities), Personal interview, Computerized Pilot Selection System Test CPSS (In case of Flying Branch) 
  3. Medical examination  

After this, the All India merit list will be released on the basis of CBT and SSB. On successfully qualifying the SSB interview round, candidates will receive call letters and joining instructions basis the vacancies available in various branches.
